In a recent decision, the Spanish government has annulled the decree that established the protection area surrounding the church of Sant Miquel d’Engolasters. This decree was initially approved on 22 July but has been deemed necessary to correct various administrative processing issues.
The government's action does not call into question the technical criteria or the heritage value of the site. Instead, it aims to ensure that the procedural aspects are conducted correctly. This annulment also impacts the protection areas of Casa de la Vall and the church of Sant Esteve, whose decrees were previously annulled by the High Court of Justice in July.
As a result of this decision, the government will need to restart the necessary administrative processes and publish new notices to initiate the procedures anew. The Ministry of Culture plans to undertake these actions in the coming weeks, reopening the consultation period for affected property owners. They will have the opportunity to review the proposed protection criteria and submit any objections.
The government asserts that these measures will help preserve the historical and cultural values of the monuments while balancing their conservation with the urban development of the surrounding areas.
