The sports councillor of Albacete, Francisco Villaescusa, has informed users of various courses held at the Manuel Collado sports pavilion that improvements will be made to the multipurpose room located in the basement. This decision follows a water pipe failure that has caused moisture and damage in the area.
To prevent further water ingress, Villaescusa explained that the damaged pipes will be repaired. Taking advantage of the Christmas break, the plans include refurbishing the flooring and skirting boards, improving lighting, eliminating wall moisture, repainting, and installing dehumidifiers to minimise any damp odours. Additionally, new sports equipment will be purchased to replace outdated items currently in use.
Villaescusa highlighted that in January 2024, a new synthetic laminate flooring was installed in the multipurpose room, along with repainting and repairs to some damaged walls. In recent months, the Manuel Collado pavilion has undergone significant improvements. Notably, the court was varnished at the request of Albacete Basket, and during the summer, leaks that had become untenable after the winter storms named Leonardo, Kristiny, and Marta were repaired. Other enhancements included the replacement of a section of the stands, painting the wall housing the video scoreboard, installing non-slip strips on the stairs, and making substantial improvements to the building's exterior facade.
Villaescusa described these repairs as “essential” due to the pavilion's age, emphasising the need for a concerted effort to ensure the building is in optimal condition. He also acknowledged the positive feedback received from Albacete Basket, stating that they recognise the government's commitment to addressing their needs as much as possible.
