The mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, has awarded the Madrileño of the Year 2026 title to José Bogas, a prominent figure in the business community and former CEO of Endesa, during a ceremony held at the Galería de las Colecciones Reales.
Born in Madrid in 1955, Bogas has been acknowledged for his professional achievements and his role in advancing the economic and social landscape of the city. The award was granted unanimously by the jury of the Fundación Madrileño del Año, which highlighted his efforts in integrating the Iberian electricity market, as well as his commitment to sustainability and corporate responsibility.
With a background in industrial engineering from the ICAI, Bogas joined Endesa in 1982. During his tenure as CEO from 2014 until April 2026, he spearheaded the company's transformation, focusing on renewable energy, digitalisation, and electrification.
Bogas has maintained a strong connection to Madrid throughout his career. He serves as a trustee of the Teatro Real and, under his leadership at Endesa, the company supported various social initiatives in the city, including the launch of the Centro de San Fermín, which opened in 2022. In 2025, he received the Medalla de Madrid awarded to Endesa by the city council.
The Madrileño of the Year award, established in 2021, honours individuals who have made significant contributions to the economic, social, and cultural development of Madrid, as well as their dedication to the progress of the local community. Previous recipients include notable figures such as Gregorio Marañón (2021), Mario Vargas Llosa (2022), Juan Abarca Cidón (2023), Carmen Iglesias (2024), and Carlos Sainz (2025).
