Local power takes centre stage at the 15th CCEP congress in Andorra

The 15th Congress of the Coordinadora del Centro de Estudios de Lengua Catalana has commenced in Escaldes-Engordany, Andorra, with a focus on the evolution and influence of local powers in both Andorra and Catalonia. The event, co-organised by the Andorran Society of Sciences and the Institut Ramon Muntaner, includes a series of conferences and round tables featuring a range of experts in the field.

This congress aims to delve into the organisation of local power from the Middle Ages to the present day, examining both institutional frameworks and informal expressions, including the roles of elites and families. The inaugural lecture was delivered by legal scholar Isidre Bartumeu, who discussed the historical evolution of the Co-principality of Andorra.

The first day also featured presentations from Josep Capdeferro and historian Carles Gascón. Other notable speakers scheduled to participate include Joaquim M. Puigvert, Maria del Carmen Agulló, Pere Salas, and Jesús Millán.

On Saturday, a round table discussion titled "Women, popular culture, and power in the local sphere" will take place, featuring contributions from M. Carme Sanmartí, Verònica Gisbert, and Andrea Florit.
