The news of Miguel Bergasa's passing has brought profound sadness to many. He was not only a photographer with a unique perspective but also an artist deeply connected to Pamplona and Navarra, cherished by friends and colleagues alike.
Jaime García del Barrio, General Director of the Museo Universidad de Navarra, reflected on his friendship with Bergasa, which blossomed through their shared involvement with the museum. García del Barrio expressed satisfaction in having Bergasa's work showcased at the museum, noting that beyond their professional relationship, he treasured the personal connection they shared.
One of the most significant moments in their collaboration was the exhibition “Menonitas de Nueva Durango,” which was on display at the museum from October 2018 to March 2019. Some pieces from this exhibition were later added to the museum's collection, thanks to Bergasa's generous donation. Last year, the exhibition was also presented at the Centro de Arte de Alcobendas, receiving positive acclaim from both visitors and critics.
Currently, the permanent photography collection at the Museo Universidad de Navarra features several of Bergasa's works from his series on Latin America. García del Barrio expressed hope that these pieces would serve as a lasting reminder of Bergasa's sensitivity, observational skills, and his desire to engage with different ways of life without prejudice.
Bergasa frequented the museum not only to see his own work but also as an enthusiastic spectator, enjoying the museum's collection and exhibitions. His presence brought joy to the museum community, and those who knew him will remember his kind disposition and willingness to engage in conversation.
Today, the comfort of his artistic legacy remains, along with gratitude for the time shared with him. García del Barrio extended his condolences to Bergasa's family and all who loved him, stating, “Thank you, Miguel, for your perspective, your friendship, and the many moments we shared. The museum will continue to be a place where we can remember you, and we will hold you in our hearts with the affection you deserve.”
