On 2 November, urgent renovations will begin at the municipal pool of the Álvaro Pino Sports Complex in Ponteareas. These improvements are part of a project focused on enhancing energy efficiency and expanding the facility.
The renovations are deemed necessary due to the age of the current installations and a lack of maintenance over the past eight years. The works will impact the pool, cardio area, spa, and seating, leading to a temporary closure of the facilities from 2 November 2026, with a planned reopening by the end of the month.
The project includes replacing the existing roof and various structural improvements to ensure the safety of users and staff. The expansion will add 656 square metres, allowing for the construction of a new swimming lane with two additional tracks, thereby increasing the facility's capacity and creating new open spaces for sports activities.
Energy efficiency upgrades will also be implemented, including comprehensive roof replacement and thermal insulation.
The mayor, Nava Castro, emphasised that “this reform is an absolute priority for the municipality. The community deserves modern and efficient facilities, and we will continue to fight for this project despite the challenges.”
Deputy mayor Juan Carlos González highlighted the urgency of the renovations, particularly the roof replacement. The Ponteareas City Council has coordinated with the contractor and the Swimming Club to relocate activities to other facilities, including two municipal pavilions during the mornings, to minimise the impact on sports and social performance.
The council appreciates the understanding of the community and users during this necessary temporary closure, which aims to transform the Álvaro Pino Complex into a reference point that is accessible and sustainable.
