A total of 14 film projects from the Community of Madrid have received funding through the selective grants announced by the Ministry of Culture for 2026. The national call has allocated €31.5 million among 70 feature films currently in the project phase.
Out of 409 applications submitted, 70 projects were selected as beneficiaries. These include 36 projects classified as having special cultural and artistic value, 24 in the documentary category, and 10 in the experimental category.
Gender equality initiatives
The initiative also aims to address gender disparity within the film industry. Of the 146 projects directed exclusively by women—representing 41.6% of the total 351 accepted projects—31 received funding, which accounts for over 46% of the total beneficiaries. Additionally, 36 of the 152 projects with scripts written solely by women (43.5% of the total) were awarded grants, making up more than 51% of the funded projects.
Moreover, 29 projects that featured both direction and scripting by women obtained grants, representing over 41% of the total beneficiaries. In terms of executive production, 65 out of 284 projects with women in that role received funding, nearly 93% of the total.
Finally, from the 334 projects that proposed a technical team with at least 40% female representation in leadership roles, 68 projects were awarded grants, which is 97% of the beneficiaries.
Distribution of grants across Spain
The grants are distributed among production companies located in nine autonomous communities, with the highest number of funded projects in Catalunya (20), followed by the Community of Madrid (14), Galicia (9), Comunitat Valenciana (7), Canarias (7), País Vasco (6), Andalucía (4), Islas Baleares (2), and Aragón (1).
