Navarra's economy grows by 0.5% in third quarter, maintaining a 2% annual increase

The economy of Navarra experienced a growth of 0.5% between July and September 2026, a slight increase from the previous quarter, while maintaining an annual growth rate of 2%. These figures are based on preliminary data from the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for the third quarter, published by the Navarra Statistics Institute (Nastat).

This growth reflects Navarra's sustained economic trajectory, even amid international uncertainties, including the ongoing repercussions of the conflict in Iran. With a 2% annual increase, the region's performance is notably better than that of its main European partners, whose growth rates range from 0.5% to 1%.

Household consumption remains the primary driver of economic activity, supported by a dynamic labour market and population growth. Over the past year, the Social Security system has registered nearly 11,000 new workers, 68% of whom are foreign nationals. This extraordinary regularisation process for migrants has contributed to job creation.

However, the increase in the active population has also led to a rise in unemployment, which now stands at 9.16%. One of the most significant aspects of the third quarter data is the clear signs of industrial recovery and improved export performance. The gradual recovery in automobile production, following the introduction of new electric models, is boosting sector activity and foreign sales.

This development enhances the industry's outlook and serves as a stimulus for employment and business investment. Despite these positive indicators, inflation remains a pressing concern. The crisis in the Middle East and rising energy costs have pushed inflation to 5.3% in September, affecting essential products such as food and industrial goods. This situation adds pressure on household economies and the margins of self-employed workers and businesses.

In light of these challenges, the Government of Navarra is committed to implementing necessary measures to mitigate the impact of rising inflation, particularly for households and the most affected sectors. Overall, the results from the third quarter demonstrate Navarra's economic resilience in a complex international landscape. The industrial recovery, market diversification, and job creation are vital factors in enhancing business competitiveness and consolidating a growth model that contributes to social well-being and cohesion across Navarra.
