Piélagos approves new contract for bar and restaurant services at Vimenor complex

The Piélagos Town Council has approved a new and improved contract for bar and restaurant services at the municipal Vimenor complex in Vioño. This decision, made during a council meeting, introduces minimum operating hours and service requirements.

Mayor Carlos Caramés announced that the contract will be put out to tender with a minimum annual fee of €3,000, which he described as an attractive offer aimed at compensating the successful bidder for the expanded obligations outlined in the new contract. The proposal received support from independent councillor Francisco Gutiérrez Calderón, while the PSOE and @VIP parties abstained.

Minimum operating hours and service requirements

The new contract stipulates a minimum opening schedule from Monday to Sunday. Specifically, the bar and restaurant must operate from 15:00 to 22:00 from Monday to Thursday, from 12:00 to midnight on Fridays, from 09:00 to midnight on Saturdays, and from 09:00 to 22:00 on Sundays and public holidays.

In terms of services, the successful bidder will be required to provide cold and hot snacks and rations from Monday to Thursday, while on weekends and holidays, they must also offer breakfasts and a daily menu featuring three starters, three main courses, and three desserts.

New outdoor terrace and cultural activities

During the council meeting, Caramés highlighted the necessity for the new contractor to install a modern outdoor pergola to provide year-round terrace service, rather than just during the summer months. A grace period will be allowed for this installation, as the council aims to expedite the contract process to restore bar and restaurant services at the complex, which hosts significant cultural and sporting activities and is located near an educational centre.

“We hope to attract many bidders, as this contract is easily accessible given that the facilities are fully equipped, making it one of the best locations for hospitality activities in Piélagos and Cantabria,” the mayor stated. He also noted that the new contract allows the successful bidder to organise cultural events or concerts at the gazebo, which was renovated by the council last spring, subject to prior municipal approval.

Other council decisions

The council also addressed other matters, including the rejection of a request to reverse a decision made in August regarding the recovery of the public domain known as the “Camino de las Viñas” in Liencres. The PP party supported this decision, while the PSOE, @VIP, and Gutiérrez Calderón abstained.

Furthermore, the council unanimously approved a tax exemption for the Diocese of Santander for the rehabilitation of the San Marín de Posadoiros chapel in Barcenilla, a project driven by local community efforts.

In addition, the council endorsed a motion urging ADIF to asphalt the small parking area near the RENFE station in Renedo or to transfer the space to the council for urgent repairs. All political groups supported a motion advocating for continued public funding of the current pension system.

Lastly, the PP party successfully passed a motion defending the current model of single-family housing construction on rural land in Cantabria, which faced opposition from the PSOE and abstention from @VIP and Gutiérrez Calderón.
