The Youth Band and the Municipal Band of Santa Eulària will celebrate Santa Cecília, the patron saint of musicians, with a special concert on Saturday, 14 November, at 19:00 in the Palau de Congressos. The event will bring together the Youth Band from the Municipal School of Music and the Municipal Band of Santa Eulària for an evening that combines cinema and history.
Admission is free, but prior reservation is required through the website santaeulariadesriu.com.
The concert will be divided into two parts. The first will feature the Youth Band, conducted by Quico Martínez, presenting a varied programme that includes three pieces: Los Educandos by A. Martínez, Es Freus by Frank J. Cogollos, and Themes from Jurassic Park by renowned film composer John Williams. This repertoire showcases the Youth Band's development and their ability to tackle musical proposals across different styles, from traditional band repertoire to film music.
The second part will be led by the Municipal Band of Santa Eulària des Riu, under the direction of Frank Cogollos, presenting a programme titled A musical journey through history. This segment invites the audience to explore various eras, cultures, and historical figures through a descriptive, epic, and cinematic repertoire.
The musical journey will begin with 8 de febrero by Vicente Ortiz. Following this, the band will perform The Falcon of Egypt by composer Rossano Galante, a piece that evokes ancient Egypt through music filled with mystery, strength, and drama. The concert will continue with La Ruta del Cid by David Rivas, a composition inspired by the legendary figure of El Cid and the territories and episodes related to his history. The programme will conclude with Imperator Carlomagno by Pere Sanz, dedicated to Charlemagne, one of the great figures of medieval Europe. This way, the second part of the concert offers a journey from ancient Egypt to medieval Europe and the Iberian Peninsula, using music as a thread to connect the audience with different historical settings.
