Sustainable wine tourism in Cerrato with three new themed routes

The Diputación de Palencia has launched three new thematic routes aimed at promoting sustainable wine tourism in the Cerrato region. This initiative, which has mentored ten local businesses, combines elements of underground heritage, local gastronomy, and active tourism.

The participating businesses have developed methodologies for designing high-value wine tourism products, sharing best practices and knowledge to create a coordinated joint offer. The businesses involved include Bodega Carreprado, Casa de La Ribera, Destiny Bike, El Portal del Cerrato, Hotel La Basílica, La Casona de Villodrigo, Descenso del Arlanzón, Raíces del Cerrato, Bodega Remigio Salas, and Bodega Valdesneros.

The presentation of the project results took place at the Museo del Cerrato in Baltanás, attended by the president of the Diputación de Palencia, Ángeles Armisén, along with the first vice president and mayor of Baltanás, María José de la Fuente Fombellida, and the tourism deputy, Francisco Pérez Castrillo, as well as local mayors and representatives from the mentored companies.

This initiative is part of Action 7 of the Sustainable Tourism Strategy for the Cerrato Palentino, a cultural landscape of wine, and is funded by the European Union's NextGenerationEU programme. The project, awarded to SINGULAE P&C, S.L. for €17,545, continues the efforts of the Sustainable Tourism Development Strategy in the region.

The newly created portfolio includes three structured itineraries:

  • Itinerary 1: Cerrato subterráneo - Focused on the architectural heritage linked to winemaking traditions and underground wineries.
  • Itinerary 2: Sabores del Cerrato - A gastronomic proposal that pairs local wines with regional products.
  • Itinerary 3: Cerrato en movimiento - Emphasising active and nature tourism along the region's rivers and landscapes.

These routes aim to provide unique experiences that enhance local pride and position the Cerrato Palentino as a notable destination in the national wine tourism landscape.

The project aligns with the Strategic Measure 26 of the Rural Agenda Action Plan for Palencia, further promoting sustainable tourism practices in the area.
