The civic centre of Tabacalera has been hosting ‘Laberinto’, an exhibition by santander artist Yeyo Riancho, since 5 November. The exhibition will remain open until 13 December, from Monday to Friday, between 09:00 and 21:00, with free entry until capacity is reached.
Organised by the Ayuntamiento de Santander, the exhibition offers a glimpse into the work of a creator who has developed a unique visual language through the combination of various disciplines and the reinterpretation of elements present in everyday surroundings, particularly in urban spaces.
The mayor of Santander, Gema Igual, highlighted the opportunity to explore Riancho's artistic journey and his distinctive approach to artistic creation. She emphasised the artist's ability to transform elements of daily life, noting the city’s streets, shadows, structures, and small details as sources of inspiration for his works.
Riancho constructs images where lines intersect, figures overlap, and elements multiply to fill the space, resulting in compositions that allow viewers to discover new relationships between forms. His artistic journey combines various disciplines and experiences, drawing influences from comic art, alternative illustration from the 1960s and 70s, as well as aesthetics linked to rock and psychedelic music.
Born in Santander in 1983 and trained in graphic design, Yeyo Riancho has developed part of his career outside Spain, with experiences in cities such as Reims, Bristol, and Berlin. His work merges drawing, illustration, and painting, characterised by a creative process that highlights repetition, accumulation, and the interplay between forms.
The artist's compositions feature geometric structures coexisting with spontaneous strokes and elements that appear to grow and expand beyond the confines of the artwork. Some images evoke urban plans, architectural constructions, or imaginary spaces.
Riancho previously showcased his work in Santander, including the exhibition ‘Spread’, held in 2023 at the Gran Casino del Sardinero. ‘Laberinto’ is part of the cultural programming at the Tabacalera Civic Centre, which celebrates five years of exhibition activity in 2026.
Finally, the mayor has invited residents to visit ‘Laberinto’, to pause and appreciate the details of the compositions, and to learn about the journey of this santander artist, whose work reflects influences from diverse disciplines and manifestations of contemporary culture.
