The Teatro Municipal Concha Espina will present '25 vacas', a play written by Maije Guerrero, on 13 November at 20:30. The announcement was made by Esther Vélez, the local councillor for culture, alongside actress Lucía Alvear Alonso.
Produced by Rita Cofiño Producciones and directed by Rita Cofiño, the play features a cast that includes Lucía Alvear Alonso, Belén Cañas Alonso, and local actress Olivia Matas. Vélez highlighted the 'original and different' nature of the production, which brings audiences closer to rural life, its challenges, and the generational shifts in farming and livestock.
According to Vélez, the play is rooted in 'a reality closely linked to our land', addressing universal themes such as family relationships, trust, loyalty, and the search for truth. She emphasised the importance of municipal support for local theatrical creation, advocating for a culture that helps people understand their surroundings and gives voice to local stories.
Vélez expressed gratitude to the author, director, and actresses, inviting the public from Torrelavega and the surrounding area to attend the performance. The narrative begins with the extreme circumstances surrounding the death of 25 cows in San Roque de Riomiera, serving as the backdrop for the fictional tale.
Alvear clarified that the play does not replicate the actual events but instead tells the story of three sisters who leave their village in search of personal development. The death of their father prompts their return, where they must take care of the cows and confront their family history, each having experienced it differently.
Describing '25 vacas' as 'a very entertaining and fun play', Alvear noted that it combines intrigue with humour to tackle profound issues. Since its premiere in February 2025, the production has toured various venues in Cantabria and other Spanish locations. The set design is by Néstor del Barrio, and the original music by Álvaro Basanta enhances the storytelling by conveying the passage of time and environmental changes, initially conceived as a film script.
The performance lasts approximately 60 minutes and is recommended for audiences aged 16 and above. Tickets are currently on sale, priced at €4.50 for area A and €3.50 for lateral area A.
