The Best in Heritage 2026 will be held on 12 and 13 November in Barcelona, following a change in dates due to a planned general strike on 11 November. This global event will showcase a comprehensive programme featuring 34 projects from around the world, alongside guided tours of the city's heritage sites and opportunities for informal networking.
The event, which is a key reference in the heritage sector, will present a total of 34 initiatives selected for their excellence in museology, conservation, and cultural management. The programme includes 10 projects in the 'Imagines' category, focusing on new technologies and multimedia, as well as 24 general projects from various continents, covering diverse themes and formats.
Jointly funded by the Diputació de Barcelona, the Barcelona City Council, the ACPC (Generalitat de Catalunya), and the 'la Caixa' Foundation, the event will take place at several venues including CaixaForum Barcelona, Ateneu Barcelonès, Born-Museum of the History of Barcelona, and the cloister of the Convent of the Angels (MACBA), where the closing ceremony will be held.
In addition to official presentations, this year's edition will feature guided tours of notable heritage sites such as Palau Güell, CaixaForum Barcelona, and Ateneu Barcelonès. Specific networking moments will also be arranged to encourage direct dialogue, strengthen connections, and foster new partnerships among attendees.
The Best in Heritage serves as an opportunity for the entire heritage sector, aiming to inspire through real success stories, facilitate connections among professionals from different countries, expand technical knowledge, create dynamic spaces for idea exchange, and encourage reflection. The collaboration between the Diputació de Barcelona and The Best in Heritage aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) number 4 'Quality Education' and number 17 'Partnerships for the Goals'. These 17 SDGs were proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly on 25 September 2015 and are part of the global agenda for 2030. The Diputació de Barcelona is committed to fulfilling these objectives and supports local governments in the province accordingly.
