Toledo presents 'La casa de Bernarda Alba' for cancer charity

On 7 November at 20:00, the Sala Thalía in Toledo will host a performance of 'La casa de Bernarda Alba', a play by renowned Spanish playwright Federico García Lorca. The event aims to support patients with cancer and their families, as well as promote research in this field.

The initiative was presented by Ana Pérez, the councillor for Culture and Heritage, who encouraged residents to attend the performance by the Grupo de Teatro Miguel de Cervantes. Pérez was joined by Fernando Jou, the provincial president of the AECC, and the director of the play, José Miguel Alonso.

Pérez highlighted the importance of this cultural and charitable initiative, stating, "This event combines theatre with a commitment to support those affected by cancer and their families." Jou expressed gratitude to the Toledo City Council for providing the venue and acknowledged the support from the Provincial Council through its theatre representation circuit.

Jou announced that the AECC will launch its own cancer research project in the province of Toledo, made possible by the solidarity of local citizens. He reiterated the AECC's mission, which focuses on three main pillars: comprehensive support for cancer patients and their families, the promotion of healthy lifestyle habits, and the advancement of research.

The councillor also praised the Grupo de Teatro Miguel de Cervantes, founded in 1996 by Ramón González, for its extensive experience and commitment to social causes. She noted, "The dedication of its members and the effort behind each production provide an opportunity to enjoy quality theatre while contributing to a cause that affects society as a whole."

Alonso described 'La casa de Bernarda Alba' as not only a classic of Spanish literature but also a powerful commentary on freedom, youth, and the search for love, inviting audiences to reflect on repression, tradition, and the role of women in society.

Tickets for the performance are priced at €7 and can be purchased at the AECC office located at Calle Diputación, 7, and at the El Tajo Residents' Association on Calle Río Bullaque in the Polígono neighbourhood.
