Between 10 and 26 November, the city of Vigo will host various activities aimed at raising awareness about gender-based violence and promoting equality. The programme was presented by Carmela Silva, the first deputy mayor and councillor for Historical Heritage, Culture, and Equality, alongside Ana Laura Iglesias, the councillor for Equality and Commerce, and other local advocates.
Silva described this year's initiative as one of the most ambitious in Galicia and across Spain, stating that "Vigo is a leading reference for activities supporting women's rights." She highlighted the critical issue of denialism surrounding gender violence, noting that "denialism kills, as every year women are murdered simply for being women."
This year, the municipal programme for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women will place particular emphasis on digital violence. Training sessions scheduled for 23 and 24 November will address this topic and feature a representative from the United Nations.
Silva praised the efforts of the Women’s Council, describing Vigo as the "nerve centre of the fight against the denialism of gender violence." She encouraged all citizens to participate in the initiative, stressing the importance of male support in this collective struggle.
