Spanish courts support Vigo council's claim for property tax from hospital concessionaire

The council of Vigo has secured a significant legal victory, enabling it to demand payment of €1,067,028.22 from the concessionaire of Álvaro Cunqueiro Hospital. This ruling comes after the court rejected an appeal filed by the company against the municipal decision regarding the property tax for the year 2025.

Abel Caballero, the mayor of Vigo, announced the court's decision this morning, highlighting that the Administrative Court No. 2 of Vigo upheld the council's stance on collecting the Impuesto de Bienes Inmuebles (IBI), or property tax, from the private company managing the hospital. This ruling reinforces the municipal authority's position to levy this tax on the concessionaire.

Once again, the judiciary has validated the council's efforts to ensure compliance with local tax obligations, further establishing the legal framework surrounding public-private partnerships in Spain.
