The Xunta de Galicia has underscored the importance of telecommunications as a vital tool for ensuring the safety of individuals and the territory. This message was conveyed by the Minister of Finance and Public Administration, Miguel Corgos, during his speech at the VII Telecos Galicia Forum held in Vigo.
In the current context of technological transformation and digitalisation, Corgos stated that Galicia would not be able to meet the challenges it faces "if it did not have telecommunications networks tailored to its territory and population." He highlighted the "strategic importance of telecommunications" in this regard.
The Minister reminded attendees that "all major projects undertaken by the Xunta in the utilisation and implementation of technology" rely on the effective functioning of telecommunications networks, particularly given Galicia's status as having the most dispersed population in Spain and its challenging topography.
To address this unique and advanced technological transformation, the Galician government acknowledges the necessity of specialisation and aims to "promote the creation and establishment of companies and centres that concentrate knowledge."
To support these initiatives, Corgos noted that it is essential to have updated budgets. He announced that the Xunta Council approved the 2027 budget, which allocates over €15 billion to address the needs of the Galician population, including those in the telecommunications sector, which, as the forum's motto states, "connects lives."
Additionally, Miguel Corgos took the opportunity to commend the work of the Agency for Technological Modernisation of Galicia (Amtega) and its director, Damián Rey, who was among the award recipients at the Telecos Forum 2026 gala.
