The mayor of Algeciras, Jacinto Muñoz, participated in the Tosantos 2026 celebrations, accompanied by the councillor for Commerce and Markets, Sabina Quiles, and a broad representation of the municipal government team. They toured various locations where scheduled activities took place.
This year, the city embraced one of its most cherished traditions, transforming municipal markets, streets, and central squares into vibrant meeting points for locals and visitors alike. The festivities offered a range of activities suitable for all ages, including musical performances, workshops, award ceremonies, children's entertainment, parades, exhibitions, dance proposals, games, and stalls featuring crafts and collectibles. Key locations included the Mercado Hotel Garrido, Plaza Alta, Plaza de la Mujer, Pasaje Alarde, Calle Regina Martínez, and Mercado Ingeniero Torroja.
In addition to the festive activities, the municipal markets maintained their traditional offerings for the season, featuring stalls selling roasted chestnuts, nuts, sweets, and other typical products associated with Tosantos. This contributed to the unique atmosphere that characterises the celebration each year.
The Algeciras City Council organised the event in collaboration with local entities such as ACTYMA, APYMEAL, RecreArte, Paseo del Coleccionista, Alquimia Pingüina, and Kaijus Games Klub. These organisations played a vital role in developing a programme that blends tradition, local commerce, culture, and leisure.
Through this celebration, Algeciras continues to honour one of the most distinctive events in its festive calendar, highlighting its municipal markets and promoting the revitalisation of the city centre and traditional commerce.
