Ames celebrates library day with super readers awards

Mayor Blas García, who oversees the municipal libraries, presented the awards for the fifth edition of the Super Readers campaign on 26 October. This campaign, which took place from 1 April to 13 October, encouraged library users in Bertamiráns and Milladoiro to collect stamps by borrowing books.

Participants gathered more than 160 cards, each representing a stamp earned for borrowing books, which entered them into a draw for a selection of books held on 15 October. In total, 14 prizes were awarded—eight for children and six for adults—comprising book bundles and backpacks filled with various materials, including notepads, pens, USB drives, and a game.

The Super Readers campaign began in April to coincide with World Book Day and concluded with the celebration of Library Day on 24 October. This initiative aims to recognise the library's most loyal patrons while introducing its resources to those who may not yet be familiar with them.

Super Readers is designed for both children and adults, featuring two categories: one for those under 14 years old and another for those over 14. Users can obtain a Super Reader card—white for children and orange for adults—by requesting one at the municipal libraries. For each book borrowed, users receive a stamp, and once their cards are filled, they are entered into the prize draw.

During the award ceremony on 26 October, the winners from the Bertamiráns library in the under-14 category were Anxo Prado, Amador Vázquez, Anxo Expósito, and Daniel Soliño. In the over-14 category, the winners were Manuela Pajares, María Encarnación Ruíz, and Irene López. At the Milladoiro library, the winners in the children's category were Alberto Barros, Emma Santalla, Izan Andina, and Nekane Franco, while the adult winners were Ramón Cobas, Inmaculada Concepción Carreño, and Noelia María Martín.
