The autumn edition of Badalona's discount vouchers, known as 'Badabons', has sold out in just over two hours following their launch. The vouchers, which can be used in participating local businesses until 22 November, are part of a campaign funded by the Badalona City Council with an investment of €800,000.
Each Badabon allows residents to make purchases of up to €100 in participating shops for only €60, with the remaining €40 covered by the city council. This initiative is expected to generate at least €2 million in economic activity for local commerce.
Badalona's mayor, Xavier Garcia Albiol, expressed his satisfaction with the rapid sell-out, stating, "The fact that, for the second time, the Badabons have sold out in just two hours demonstrates the strong reception of the campaign and the interest of citizens in taking advantage of discounts to shop locally." He added that these vouchers not only provide direct savings for families but also inject economic activity into local shops and restaurants, which are essential to the vibrancy of Badalona's neighbourhoods.
Josep Maria Puente, president of FEB-Pimec, noted that the quick sell-out of the Badabons confirms the success of this initiative and highlights the demand for measures that encourage local shopping. He emphasised the importance of continuing such campaigns to stimulate economic activity in local communities.
This year marks the first time the Badalona City Council has launched two editions of the Badabons within the same year, allocating €400,000 for each edition. The total investment of €800,000 is expected to significantly impact local commerce throughout 2026.
