Barbastro to announce literary award winners on 6 November

The Barbastro Literary Awards 2026 will take place on 6 November, bringing together the winners of its three main categories: the Ciudad de Barbastro Novel Prize, the Hermanos Argensola Poetry Prize, and the Short Novel Prize in Aragonese. The event is set to begin at 19:00 at the Barbastro Congress Centre, with free entry, allowing attendees to engage with the winning authors and their works.

Journalist Ana Segura will moderate the presentations, which will feature the authors alongside representatives from the respective juries and publishers. The winning works include:

  • ‘El derecho a quedarse quieto’ by Marina Perezagua, winner of the XLVII Ciudad de Barbastro Novel Prize, published by Galaxia Gutenberg. This novel explores the themes of public exposure, external perception, and the right to withdraw, through the encounter between the last inhabitant of a city and a young journalist. Perezagua, a Sevilla-born author with a doctorate in Philology, has previously won the Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz Prize for her work Yoro.
  • ‘Cada cosa al moverse’ by Javier Vicedo Alós, winner of the XLVIII Hermanos Argensola Poetry Prize, published by Visor. This collection of poetry delves into the relationship between memory, identity, and writing, examining how memories transform when expressed through words. Vicedo Alós, born in Castellón in 1985, is an acclaimed poet and playwright, recognised with awards such as the Young Poetry Prize from Radio Nacional de España.
  • ‘Vistreta Antecullida’ by Manuel Sánchez Barea, winner of the XIV Short Novel Prize in Aragonese, published by Gara d'Edizions. This narrative takes readers on a journey of investigation and the discovery of an anonymous poetry collection, prompting reflections on writing and personal journeys. Sánchez Barea, born in Zaragoza in 1969, is a writer and promoter of the Aragonese language, having previously been involved with Ligallo de Fablans and contributed to the magazine Orache.

During the presentations, Perezagua will be joined by Ignacio Martínez de Pisón, president of the Novel Prize jury; Vicedo Alós will converse with Carlos Marzal, a member of the Poetry Prize jury; and Sánchez Barea will be accompanied by Chusé Aragüés, editor and jury member for the Short Novel Prize.
