The city council of Alicante is set to organise the 18th edition of ‘Botigues al Carrer’ on Saturday, 24 October. This event aims to promote local commerce and gastronomy, offering a full day of activities, crafts, special offers, concerts, and workshops from 11:30 to 20:30, in collaboration with the association 'Más que Centro'.
Lidia López, the city’s councillor for commerce, has invited residents and visitors to enjoy this special edition, highlighting its success over the years. She stated, “It is a highly anticipated commercial initiative, providing an opportunity to meet local merchants in a relaxed environment, even with children. The pedestrianisation and thematic transformation of this street have made it a popular and photographed area in Alicante.”
Nearly a hundred shops will showcase their products throughout the day on this iconic street, featuring a variety of local goods and special offers. Restaurants will also provide tastings, including the chance to sample some of the best patatas bravas in Alicante, served by the restaurant Vino y Más, which will feature smoked kimchi and confit garlic and lime alioli.
Carmen Bueso, president of the 'Más que Centro' association, emphasised the significance of the event, stating, “We have been organising this initiative for many years and were among the first to do so. It requires a great deal of effort and preparation to ensure its success, creating a unique day for people to enjoy local commerce and activities that we prepare with great care.”
Event programme
The programme will kick off at 11:30 with a range of children's workshops, performances, and entertainment. Live music is also planned, alongside a commercial day featuring 70 establishments showcasing their products on the street, which is particularly significant for the city centre.
Additionally, two stalls will be set up for social causes, representing the provincial association of women with breast cancer (APAMM) and the association of parents of children with cancer in Alicante (Aspanion). Participation in the activities, as in previous editions, is free of charge. Attendees will also have the opportunity to take a photo at a 360-degree photocall, enjoy a children's magic show featuring Magician Edy at 18:00, and attend a live concert to conclude the event.
