Calahorra library hosts Halloween activities for children

The Pedro Gutiérrez municipal library in Calahorra has prepared a special programme to celebrate Halloween, targeting young audiences to encourage reading, creativity, and the use of this cultural space among children. The activities are designed to be both fun and educational, allowing children to enjoy the library in a unique way during this festive period.

The first event, a storytelling session titled ‘The mystery of the blue house’ by María del Rosario Ramos, will take place on Thursday, 29 October, at 18:00 in the children's room. This session is aimed at children aged 5 to 10 and does not require prior registration. Through a story of mystery and overcoming challenges, the narrative seeks to raise awareness about children living with rare diseases and promote social empathy. All proceeds from the sale of this illustrated album will be donated to the Spanish Federation of Rare Diseases (FEDER) to support medical research, treatments, and psychological support for affected families.

The programme will continue on Friday, 30 October, at 17:30 with an escape room experience titled ‘The curse of Morgana’ for children aged 6 to 10. Participants will embark on an adventure to solve puzzles and find a spell before it is too late. A maximum of 15 places are available, so prior registration is required by calling the municipal library at 941 10 50 66.

Following the escape room, from 18:30 to 19:00 in the youth room, a workshop called ‘Terror crafts’ will allow attendees to unleash their creativity by making Halloween-inspired decorations. This workshop is open to the public.

Isabel Sáenz, the councillor for the library, emphasised that “with initiatives like these, we aim to bring the library closer to families and make it a lively, participatory, and attractive space for young people. We want children to associate the library not only with reading but also with fun, learning, and community.”

The Calahorra City Council encourages all families to participate in these free activities, which are part of the cultural dynamisation efforts promoted by the Pedro Gutiérrez municipal library.
