CentroCentro unveils new exhibitions featuring juana gonzález, teresa moro, elena jiménez and emerging artists

CentroCentro, a municipal cultural centre in Madrid, has inaugurated four new exhibitions on its third floor, including the first institutional exhibition of juana gonzález, titled ‘Indómita pintura’. Curated by Fernando Castro Flórez, this exhibition features a selection of 34 pieces from the last decade of gonzález's work, showcasing some of her most representative pieces alongside new works created specifically for the venue.

The exhibition explores gonzález's unique baroque, neo-expressionist, and post-surrealist universe, intertwining narrative dimensions with formal strength. It includes large-format paintings that extend beyond the canvas and introduces complex sculptural-installation pieces that engage with the architecture of the building, creating a true cartography of her creative imagination, which prominently features the human figure and the role of women.

Visitors are invited to delve into the subconscious associations that inspire gonzález's work, where the everyday and the strange coexist, appealing to the viewer's imagination.

Emerging artists and community connections

The second exhibition, also on the third floor, is titled ‘El instante es semilla viva’ and focuses on the emerging artistic scene in Madrid. Curated by María García Márqués, it showcases site-specific works by eight artists: Adela Angulo, Natalia Cardoso García, José Casas, Livia Daniel, Julieta Hsiung, Rubén Ojeda Guzmán, Maya Pita-Romero, and Pablo Quesada. The project draws inspiration from a phrase in Clarice Lispector's text ‘Agua viva’: “the instant is a living seed.”

This exhibition grapples with the paradox of capturing a present that shifts as we try to name it, reflecting on how to accompany an idea as it transforms and how to coexist with uncertainty without needing to resolve it. It also highlights the transformative power of small gestures—such as collecting, grooming, writing, breathing, or protecting—through subtle actions that connect and make visible their effects on both matter and space.

Unique archival projects

Additionally, CentroCentro will host two significant projects until 18 April 2027 that connect with Madrid's artistic community and offer a closer look at its protagonists. ‘Teresa Moro. Colección particular, sin título’, curated by Susana Bañuelos, presents work by Teresa Moro, who has spent over a decade exploring common objects and the evocative power they hold through their relationship with their owners. Moro has visited more than twenty studios of creators in Madrid, seeking out everyday objects that accompany their artistic practices. This archaeological and affective exploration has resulted in a selection of objects that serve as indirect portraits of the creators themselves.

‘Elena Jiménez. Me das tus manos. Archivo de mujeres creadoras’, curated by María Ortega, showcases part of a sculptural and artistic research project by Elena Jiménez, the 2025 National Graphic Art Award winner. Since 2020, Jiménez has been moulding the hands of over 80 contemporary women artists and creators in plaster, focusing on recovering historically silenced narratives and generating new forms of representation within contemporary feminist practices.
