Canary Islands aims to strengthen its position in the British market at London tourism fair

The Canary Islands will take part in one of the three major tourism fairs globally, alongside the ITB in Berlin and Fitur in Madrid, starting this Tuesday. The aim is to reinforce its position in the British market, which is the most significant source of tourists for the archipelago, with one in three visitors coming from the UK.

Tenerife will seek to reaffirm its leadership among British travellers, who represent over 43% of arrivals to the islands. The current priority is to achieve greater added value from this market. The UK is also the primary market for Lanzarote, although it is showing signs of stabilisation in volume and a slight adjustment in connectivity.

Gran Canaria will focus on consolidating the profitability of British tourists, while Fuerteventura will debut a new connection with Heathrow. This route, operated by British Airways, is set to commence on 13 December with two weekly flights, marking the island's first direct link to Heathrow.

Connectivity remains one of the main challenges facing the Canary Islands. La Palma, La Gomera, and El Hierro are looking to attract lucrative niches in London, such as international diving, long-distance hiking, and eco-conscious travellers.
