Christmas circus and cabaret oasis unveil new programmes in Torrelavega

The Christmas Circus and Cabaret Oasis will once again take centre stage in Torrelavega's festive calendar, presenting two entirely revamped productions. The family-friendly show titled “La casa de Papá Noel” and the adult-oriented Cabaret Oasis will share a tent located in the Zapatón car park, with distinct schedules running from 18 December to 9 January.

During a press conference, Cristina García Viñas, the Councillor for Commerce and Tourism, and producer Raúl Alegría introduced the new features of both events, which have become staples of the city’s Christmas celebrations, attracting visitors from Cantabria and beyond. García Viñas expressed her gratitude to Alegría for his commitment to the city and his efforts to refresh both shows. She emphasised the appeal of the Christmas Circus, which has become a “must-see event for families,” drawing in visitors from nearby municipalities and regions.

García Viñas noted that these events contribute to one of the key objectives of the Christmas programming: to encourage visitors to explore Torrelavega and enjoy its shops and hospitality.

Raúl Alegría acknowledged the municipal support and highlighted the growing popularity of the Christmas Circus, with attendees purchasing tickets from “various parts of Spain.” He explained that there is a segment of the public that engages in Christmas tourism to experience the offerings of different cities, including Torrelavega.

New show at the Christmas circus

A major highlight of this year’s edition will be the artistic offering of the Christmas Circus, titled “La casa de Papá Noel.” This show invites families to discover what happens inside Santa Claus's home, how gifts are prepared, and what occurs when an unexpected event threatens to change Christmas.

García Viñas explained that this narrative will serve as the backbone of a performance combining acrobatics, magic, humour, and special effects, featuring international artists from countries such as France, Cuba, and Italy. The councillor emphasised that the production aims to go beyond traditional circus acts, providing an experience that encapsulates “the excitement, fantasy, and joy of the season.”

Raúl Alegría stressed the completely renewed nature of the production, stating that “no artist, music, costume, or setup is repeated; absolutely nothing.” This overhaul promises to deliver a different experience compared to previous editions. Among the artistic innovations, he mentioned the participation of a Cuban aerial silk specialist, a hand-to-hand acrobatic duo, and a French artist performing with over twenty hoops. Additionally, there will be a Cyr wheel act and a clown performing in Cantabria for the first time. The production will also include magic numbers and special effects, along with the traditional snowfall inside the tent, a much-anticipated moment for the audience.

Performances of the Christmas Circus will take place at 18:30 on 18, 19, 20, 23, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, and 30 December, as well as 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, and 9 January.

Cabaret oasis presents six nights of entertainment

Alongside the family circus, the Cabaret Oasis will return with a new programme exclusively for those aged 18 and over. This format, which originated in Torrelavega and has also become a Christmas classic, will revive the atmosphere of the historic Oasis with a mix of humour, circus acts, and more sensual performances.

Raúl Alegría explained that the show retains the essence of those memorable nights, featuring “spicier, more sensual, and more entertaining” proposals while still incorporating circus disciplines that are integral to its identity. This edition will showcase artists from various specialities, including local professionals. Confirmed participants include comedians Raúl Massana and Coria Castillo, who will host the performances. The Cabaret Oasis will have six shows at 22:00 on 18, 19, and 26 December, and 2, 8, and 9 January.

A successful proposal attracting thousands of spectators

During the presentation, Raúl Alegría recalled that last year’s edition attracted nearly 15,000 spectators, a figure that reflects the popularity of both shows and their ability to draw audiences to Torrelavega during the festive season. He highlighted the close connection between the artists and the audience as a hallmark of the Christmas Circus. The tent, which accommodates around 300 people per performance, allows for an intimate viewing experience from any seat, maintaining the close-knit atmosphere that defines the event.

This year’s edition will feature 15 contracted artists, in addition to technical, organisational, and customer service staff. Alegría noted that many of the workers are from Torrelavega and have been involved with these shows for several years.

Tickets for the Christmas Circus and Cabaret Oasis are now available, with prices ranging from €12 to €25, depending on the chosen seating. Additionally, Raúl Alegría announced a launch promotion offering a 25% discount for the first two weeks.
