'Chroniques', a contemporary dance-theatre piece by the acclaimed company Peeping Tom, will be showcased at the Centro Danza Matadero from 12 to 15 November. This production, co-produced by the Centro Danza Matadero and directed by Gabriela Carrizo, delves into themes of metamorphosis, temporal distortions, and the interplay between bodies, objects, and nature.
The performance invites audiences into a theatrical universe where five characters, trapped in a temporal labyrinth, mutate, collide, and challenge the limits of immortality. Founded by Carrizo and Franck Chartier, Peeping Tom is renowned for its hyper-realistic aesthetic, combining virtuosic choreography with powerful performances.
Having previously presented works such as 'Triptych' and 'S 62°58’, W 60°39’' in Spain, the company returns with 'Chroniques', which constructs a sulphurous and enigmatic landscape through brief chronicles, existing in a space suspended between what could have been and what is yet to come.
In 'Chroniques', the performers' bodies reveal unusual behaviours and new possibilities of existence, traversing the human, emotional, and metaphysical dimensions of their characters. The work questions the boundaries between the human and the supernatural, as well as the beginning and end of life.
As is typical in Peeping Tom’s creative universe, the set design and atmospheres constantly interact with the characters. This production features a special collaboration with the artistic duo Lolo & Sosaku, who have developed mechanised sculptures that transform the relationships between human bodies, objects, and nature, gaining autonomy on stage.
Gabriela Carrizo, co-artistic director of Peeping Tom since its inception in 2000, has directed significant productions and collaborated with various companies and institutions, reaffirming her commitment to collective creation.
