Cine de otoño returns to Milladoiro with three film screenings

The Concello de Ames, through its Department of Culture, is set to launch a new film cycle this November, showcasing three films: San Simón, Las líneas discontinuas, and Al son de la nueva regueifa. The screenings will take place on Thursdays, 5, 12, and 20 November, starting at 20:00 in the auditorium of the Casa da Cultura in Milladoiro.

This initiative is part of the Ames Cultural programme for October, November, and December. Following each screening, there will be a brief discussion about the films. Tickets are priced at €3 for general admission and €1.50 for reduced tickets, available through the electronic ticket office. For the documentary Al son de la nueva regueifa, attendees must collect an invitation via the electronic ticket office.

The film cycle aims to bring Galician-language films to the local community and complements the Abril de Cine cycle held in spring. The first screening on 5 November will feature San Simón, directed by Miguel Ángel Delgado. On 12 November, the film Las líneas discontinuas, directed by Anxos Fazán, will be shown, followed by the documentary Al son de la nueva regueifa on 20 November, directed by Manolo Maseda and Saúl Rivas.

Film details

First session: San Simón

San Simón is a 2025 drama aimed at audiences aged 12 and over, with a runtime of 108 minutes. The film is set in October 1936, during the early years of Franco's regime, which established numerous concentration camps across Spain. The story unfolds on the island of San Simón, where the former lazaretto becomes a site of repression and suffering amidst its natural beauty. It follows Lamas, a prisoner who recalls the experiences of those who endured oppression in this small Galician enclave.

Second session: Las líneas discontinuas

The second film, Las líneas discontinuas, will be screened on 12 November. This 2025 drama, also suitable for viewers aged 12 and above, runs for 90 minutes. It tells the story of Bea, a 50-year-old woman facing separation from her husband. Upon returning to her home, she finds it ransacked and a thief asleep in her bed. Denís, a 28-year-old transgender man, struggles with job insecurity despite his education. Their paths cross for three days, after which they must part ways.

Third session: Al son de la nueva regueifa

The final session on 20 November will feature the documentary Al son de la nueva regueifa, which lasts 60 minutes. This film explores the connections between traditional regueifa, a form of oral improvisation, and its contemporary expressions. The documentary takes viewers on a journey across Galicia, showcasing regueifeiras and regueifeiros who share their insights into this vibrant art form, highlighting the interplay between tradition and modernity.

Through passionate testimonies, improvised verses, and music, the documentary paints a multifaceted picture of contemporary regueifa, an art with deep roots and an open future.
