On 4 November, at 19:00, the Municipal Archive of Reus will host a conference titled The early months of the war in the towns of Camp, presented by historian Axel Baiget. This event is part of the series A street-level view: Revolution and war in 1936, organised by Carrutxa, the Municipal Archive of Reus, and the Baix Camp Regional Archive.
Baiget will explore how the towns of Baix Camp experienced the initial months of the Spanish Civil War, revealing stories of transformation, collectivisation, feminist struggles, and new educational models that shook the local society. This conference aims to provide insight into a past that sought to change everything.
The series A street-level view: Revolution and war in 1936 aims to engage the public with this historical period through personal experiences and the daily lives of its protagonists. In addition to Baiget's conference, the series has featured talks such as Women and the Revolution by Dolors Marín, and Isidre Fontana, teacher and municipal councillor for the POUM by Salvador Palomar.
This initiative is part of the commemorative events marking the ninetieth anniversary of the events of 1936, aiming to promote the dissemination of contemporary history and the preservation of collective memory, while encouraging reflection on the impact of social revolution and the Civil War on the lives of thousands.
