The president of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, participated in the inauguration of Art Cologne 2026, a prominent international fair for modern and contemporary art. The event is taking place from 5 to 8 November at the Koelnmesse exhibition centre in Cologne, Germany, and features 164 galleries from 22 countries.
During his visit, Galmés was welcomed by Torsten Burmester, the mayor of Cologne, and Wolfram Weimer, the state minister for culture, with whom he toured the fair. Galmés expressed pride in Mallorca's representation, stating, “That Art Cologne has set its sights on Mallorca is a source of pride for the island. Coming to Cologne and seeing our artists at such a high-level fair reminds us that Mallorca's culture has a voice and international projection.”
The Consell de Mallorca is supporting nine local artists participating in this edition: Aina Albo Puigserver, Joan Cortés, José Fiol, Julià Panadès, Alejandro Javaloyas, Olmo Sard, Margarito Dela Guetto, Robert Ferrer Martorell, and Elisa Braem. Additionally, three galleries from the island are also present: Galeria Pelaires, Baró Galeria, and LA BIBI + REUS.
This visit is particularly significant as it follows the inaugural edition of Art Cologne Palma Mallorca, held from 9 to 12 April at the Palacio de Congresos in Palma. That event featured 88 galleries from 20 countries, attracted over 10,000 visitors, and included 19 galleries from the Balearic Islands, thanks to collaboration between Koelnmesse, the Govern de les Illes Balears, the Consell de Mallorca, the Ajuntament de Palma, and Art Palma Contemporani. The second edition of the Palma fair is scheduled for 1 to 4 April 2027.
