Cultural funding of 1.5 million euros awarded to 42 asturian sports federations for 2026

The Ministry of Culture, Linguistic Policy and Sport has awarded €1,499,999.75 to 42 asturian sports federations to finance their programmes for the year. The resolution, published in the Official Bulletin of the Principality of Asturias (BOPA), allows for the distribution of funds among all entities that applied, with no requests rejected.

This funding is crucial for asturian sports, supporting federations that organise and coordinate various disciplines and work year-round with clubs and athletes. Their programmes are integral to the daily operations of federated sports, which involve around 110,000 participants, ensuring the continuity of sports practice and competitions.

The funding covers 42 federations, ranging from individual sports to team events, reflecting the diverse range of activities present in the Principality. The financial support is allocated based on criteria established in the regulatory bases, aimed at helping each entity finance its programmes throughout the year.

Additionally, the funding criteria consider not only sporting activities but also the promotion of gender equality, inclusion, and diversity. The €1.5 million awarded this year represents a significant increase of 150% compared to 2019, consolidating a line of support that has steadily grown in recent years.

In line with this initiative, the President of the Principality, Adrián Barbón, announced during the recent Political Orientation Debate that funding for sports will be further reinforced for 2027, with a budget of €2 million for sports federations, €2.5 million for high-level clubs, and €300,000 for high-performance athletes.
