The La Despernada Cultural Centre was the venue for a diploma ceremony celebrating the achievements of students from the Municipal English School who participated in official exams from the University of Cambridge, held in May and June 2026. A total of 45 students took part in various assessments, with 44 achieving satisfactory results, resulting in a pass rate of nearly 100%.
Fernando Agudo, the councillor for Culture, presented the diplomas, joined by Joan O’Connell, the director of the Municipal English School, Elizabeth O’Connell, the head of studies, and the teaching staff. The students were examined across seven different levels, ranging from Starters and Movers (A1) to Cambridge Advanced English (C1).
The results were particularly impressive, with a 100% pass rate in six of the seven tests conducted. Since the Municipal English School began entering students for the official Cambridge exams, nearly 2,250 diplomas and certifications have been awarded. Currently, the school has 368 enrolled students, offering courses from Pre-Starters 1, aimed at young children, up to level C2 (Proficiency) of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
