The Education Department of Asturias is set to honour retired teachers on Wednesday, marking the first such event in seven years. The ceremony will take place at 5:00 PM at the Teatro de la Laboral in gijón, bringing together over 500 former educators who completed their professional careers between the 2019-20 and 2025-26 academic years.
Attendees will include the Education Minister, Eva Ledo, the five general directors of the department, and Juan Cofiño, the President of the Junta General del Principado, Asturias's regional parliament. The tribute, titled 'For all you have given us', aims to express gratitude for the years of dedicated service and the values imparted throughout their extensive careers.
This event also serves as a recognition of education as a collective and cumulative endeavour, as well as a tool for equality. The ceremony will be structured around three Latin words—artem, memoriam, and honorem—which will guide the performances, testimonials, and institutional speeches throughout the event.
The artistic segment will feature various performances of dance, drama, and choral singing, presented by teachers and students from the Professional Conservatory of Music and Dance of gijón and the Higher School of Dramatic Art of Asturias. The second thematic block will spotlight four individuals from different generations connected to education, sharing their personal experiences.
Institutionally, María Antonia Vivanco, the General Director of Teaching Staff, will open the event, while Minister Eva Ledo will deliver the closing remarks. The Education Department has collaborated with several institutions for this tribute, including the Integrated Centres of Vocational Training (CIFP) of Communication, Image and Sound (Langreo) and Hospitality and Tourism (gijón), the Higher School of Dramatic Art of Asturias, and the Aramo (Oviedo), Luces (Colunga), and La Magdalena (Avilés) institutes. Support has also been provided by the Ministry of Culture, Linguistic Policy and Sport, Laboral Ciudad de la Cultura, and the Association of Parents and Friends of People with Hearing Disabilities in Asturias (Apada Asturias).
