erc and euia call for reduction of property tax and increase for tourist apartments

The municipal group of erc and euia has reiterated its call for a reduction in the Impuesto sobre Bienes Inmuebles (IBI), or property tax, for the coming year. The party argues that this reduction should help to compensate for the rise in waste collection fees, thus easing the fiscal burden on residents.

Simultaneously, the republican group has proposed that the municipal government implement a surcharge on IBI for tourist rental properties, in accordance with measures outlined in housing decrees approved by the central government, which have the backing of erc. This proposal follows the decision by the Barcelona City Council, which has initially approved a modification of tax ordinances to increase the tax on owners of tourist apartments.

The surcharge in Barcelona will be progressive, depending on the number of licenses held by each owner. Those with a single license will face a 50% increase in IBI; owners with two or three licenses will see a 100% increase; and those with four or more tourist rental properties will incur a 150% increase.

Through these two proposals, the erc and euia municipal group aims for the City Council to incorporate both the reduction of IBI in the Fiscal Ordinances to offset the rising waste collection fee and a higher levy on property owners who rent out homes for tourism.
