The exhibition titled Medir para comprender el mundo (Measuring to understand the world) will be on display at the Biblioteca Foral de Bizkaia until 21 November, following an extension due to its popularity among visitors.
This showcase offers a journey through the evolution of measurement in medicine, highlighting the transition from basic observation and perception to the development of sophisticated instruments for measuring vital signs and advancements in genetics and molecular biology.
Visitors can explore historical instruments that have played a significant role in the history of medicine and science, including the scale, thermometer, sphygmomanometer (used to measure blood pressure), microscope, saccharimeter, refractometer, and spectrophotometer.
The exhibition is organised by the Diputación Foral de Bizkaia through its Department of Basque, Culture and Sport, and its Cultural Heritage Service. It is curated by Fernando Unda, a professor of Cellular Biology at the Faculty of Medicine and Nursing of the University of the Basque Country (EHU), and Anton Erkoreka, director of the Basque Museum of the History of Medicine.
