Feijóo pledges to enhance family tax exemptions to support families with children

In a rally in Vigo attended by around 2,000 supporters, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, president of the People's Party (PP), pledged to enhance the family minimum exemption to lower taxes for families with children. He stated, "It is logical and necessary at this time."

Feijóo also committed to reducing personal income tax (IRPF), the value-added tax (VAT) on basic food items and electricity for the duration of inflation. He proposed exempting VAT for self-employed individuals earning less than €85,000, lowering VAT and property transfer tax (ITP) for young first-time buyers, and eliminating taxes on the purchase of a first home in rural areas of Spain. Additionally, he suggested allowing young people to save on IRPF to help with house deposits.

Criticising over 100 tax increases under Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, Feijóo remarked, "Enough of a government that boasts about high revenue while people are left with almost nothing." He added, "We have been calling for tax reductions since 2022, and in 2027 we will finally do it. Spain will have an effective and decent government."

Feijóo condemned the burden placed on workers by corruption, stating, "We are still waiting for an explanation about the jewels of Zapatero. He should explain to the judge and apologise to the Spanish people for the lessons he tried to give and the embarrassment he caused us. Everything will come to light and have consequences." He vowed to ensure accountability for all involved, asserting, "We will not pardon the corrupt. Everything will be cleaned up, starting on 29 November by sweeping them out at the polls."

He promised to prioritise the general interest of the country and reminded attendees that he has signed a contract with Spain that goes beyond political programmes, committing himself to its fulfilment. "Spain does not need more changes of opinion from its president; it needs a change of government," he declared.

On 29 November, he urged Spaniards to "tear down Sánchez's wall that feeds extremists and destroys us as a country," stating, "This is where the national reconstruction we propose will begin." He committed to establishing a fair financing system, asserting that regional financing should not be used as a bargaining chip for government support.

Feijóo envisions a functional Spain with schools that deliver results, resources for dependency care, timely trains, and a public healthcare system with more doctors and better conditions. He lamented that in the past eight years, Spaniards have paid more while receiving less: "The people's effort evaporates amid prices, taxes, and corruption. This must end."

He highlighted that the PP would facilitate the construction of more housing across Spain, support tenants, provide security for landlords to rent out their properties, and ensure that squatters can be removed within 48 hours. "We will build one million homes; you have my word, and for that, we will modify the land law, the horizontal property law, and approve an anti-squatting law," he affirmed.

Feijóo stated that Galicia is not defined by the violence and intolerance of extremists, expressing a desire for a country where disagreement is expressed through words, not stones, and where people can live peacefully together. He conveyed support for the security forces, including the police and the Civil Guard, as well as journalists who have faced aggression, denouncing that this is not an isolated incident in Spain. He assured that if he reaches the Moncloa Palace, "the police and Civil Guard will have the resources and support they need; no one will see their rights curtailed," and he will defend "the freedom of all." He emphasised the importance of approving and adhering to budgets, contrasting this with the current government's approach, stating, "In Moncloa, they have no idea what that is or care, and they are plundering the people without control."
