The Local Government Board has approved the awarding of a contract to Martator Insurance S.L. for the supply and installation of new lighting systems at four municipal sports facilities. This initiative aims to modernise the infrastructure and enhance the conditions under which local clubs and athletes operate.
The lighting upgrades will specifically target the Manuel Millán, Picadueñas, La Canaleja, and La Granja 2 football pitches, replacing outdated fixtures that have suffered from wear and tear over time. Tomás Sampalo, the city’s Sports Delegate, emphasised the importance of improving municipal sports facilities, particularly in ways that directly affect the quality and safety of the venues for clubs and users.
This renovation will provide more efficient lighting tailored to the specific needs of each pitch, while also contributing to reduced energy consumption and lower maintenance requirements compared to the current systems. The facilities are heavily used throughout the week for training and competitions, especially during the autumn and winter months when activities often take place in the evenings.
The new lighting will enhance visibility for sporting activities and allow for better utilisation of municipal resources. The contract is part of initiatives funded through Decree 277/2023 by the Junta de Andalucía, aimed at improving sports facilities. This project continues the city’s efforts to progressively upgrade the lighting systems across various football pitches in Jerez, including previous installations at the Anexo del Campo de la Juventud and Campo 1 of the La Granja Sports Complex. Additionally, renovations are planned for the San Telmo football pitch.
