The Local Police of Alicante has reported that its Rural Proximity Unit (UPR) successfully prevented an alleged crime against land use regulations by halting the unauthorised installation of a large prefabricated building in the rural area of La Cañada del Fenollar.
The intervention took place when a patrol from the UPR spotted a heavy crane in the process of unloading a prefabricated module. The land in question is classified as specially protected non-buildable soil, where urban planning and environmental laws strictly prohibit such installations due to its proximity to a watercourse.
Officers warned those involved in the operation that if the structure was detached and placed on the ground, they would face charges under Article 319 of the Penal Code, which pertains to urban planning violations, leading to the immediate arrest of all parties involved in the installation process.
Upon receiving this warning, the promoters abandoned the operation and arranged for the urgent return of a transport truck to reload the module. The UPR team maintained constant surveillance in the area throughout the afternoon to ensure the complete withdrawal of the machinery and the definitive removal of the building from the protected site.
Julio Calero, the Councillor for Citizen Security, praised the “excellence and high level of specialisation” of the Rural Proximity Unit. He emphasised that “the agility, thorough knowledge of the regulations, and operational determination of our agents were crucial in neutralising a threat to protected land before any alteration could occur.”
This intervention is part of an integrated plan by the Local Police of Alicante to monitor and protect rural environments, aimed at preventing illegal land subdivision and preserving urban discipline and the natural heritage of various rural areas within the municipality.
