The Universidad de Alicante (UA) will host the national EURES Spain 2026 meeting from 28 to 30 October, a gathering of advisors from this network, which consists of officials from public employment services across various autonomous communities in Spain, aimed at facilitating labour mobility within Europe.
Josep Ochoa Monzó, the Secretary General of the Universidad de Alicante, will represent the academic institution at the inauguration, scheduled for Wednesday at 15:30. Under the theme "From guarantee to impact: EURES as a strategic partner in the European labour market", the sessions will discuss the evolution of the European labour market, the challenges of labour mobility, and the role of the EURES network in implementing active employment policies.
EURES is responsible for managing job offers for Spanish citizens wishing to work in other European Union countries and organising selection processes in Spain for companies from other member states seeking to hire workers.
The event will gather approximately 100 professionals linked to this network. The programme will commence on Wednesday, 28 October, with an institutional opening ceremony featuring Antonio Galvañ Díez, the Secretary of Employment and General Director of Labora, and Belén Rebollo Moral, Deputy General Director of Active Employment Policies at the State Public Employment Service (SEPE).
Following this, representatives from the European Commission will present key updates on European policies and initiatives related to talent acquisition, including the EU Talent Pool. The European Labour Authority will also participate, dedicating a session to the EURES 2030 Strategy.
The afternoon will include a welcome for new network members, a group photograph, and an institutional dinner.
On Thursday, 29 October, the focus will shift to EURES as a strategic partner in implementing active employment policies. Sessions will cover the EURES 2030 Strategy and its alignment with the Spanish Strategy for Active Employment Support 2025-2028, as well as the role of Labour Councils in labour mobility and the connection between job offers and demands at the European level.
The final day, Friday, 30 October, will be dedicated to evaluating the impact and future of the EURES network. The programme includes presentations on impact indicators and evaluations of the network in Spain, a round table on the right to mobility and its implications for employment from the perspective of public employment services, and a participatory dynamic on EURES as an agent of territorial transformation.
The meeting will conclude with a session on conclusions and future proposals, followed by an institutional closing ceremony featuring Andrea Recuenco Soto, Provincial Director of SEPE in Alicante, and Marisa Mezquita Juan, General Director of Planning and Services at Labora.
Notably, days before the event, Raúl Ruiz Callado, Vice-Rector for Students and Employment at the Universidad de Alicante, met with Elena Fernández, the national EURES coordinator for Spain. The two leaders held a working meeting and jointly explored the facilities available at the Alicante campus for hosting the event.
