María Jesús Lorenzana, the regional minister of Economy and Industry, has called for wood construction to become a key driver in the transformation of Galicia's forestry sector. Speaking in Santiago, she made her remarks during the closing of the VI Intersectoral Meeting of the Forestry Ecosystem Piñeiros 26, organised by the Arume Foundation at the Cidade da Cultura.
Lorenzana emphasised the need for ongoing efforts to turn wood construction into an industrial demand for the Galician forestry and wood chain. “Galicia has a clear advantage as we possess the raw materials and an industrial fabric on which to build this evolution,” she stated.
In her address, Lorenzana explained that the government must support the sector while also playing a vital role as a demand generator. This is the mission of the Galician Agency for Forestry Industry (Xera), which is incorporating wood into public buildings and promoting projects that enable companies to gain experience, develop solutions, and certify their industrial capabilities.
