The Los Fresnos Shopping Centre in Gijón has become a hub for motor enthusiasts and classic vehicle lovers over the next two weeks. From 2 to 14 November, the venue is hosting an exhibition featuring 19 Vespa motorcycles that span 72 years of history, showcasing models from the mid-20th century to the latest versions.
This initiative is organised by David Fernández Barbao, a member of both the Vespa Club Asturias and the Vespa Club España, with the aim of bringing the public closer to the history, design, and evolution of a motorcycle that has transcended generations and borders.
From classic Vespas of 1954 to modern models
The exhibition offers a journey through the transformation of the Vespa over more than seven decades. Visitors will have the opportunity to view models from different eras, appreciate changes in design and features, and discover how this vehicle has adapted to new times while maintaining its identity. Among the 19 motorcycles on display are examples representing various stages of its evolution, from the rounded shapes of the 1950s to contemporary designs.
An Italian icon that has shaped generations
The Vespa's story began in Italy in 1946. Its innovative design, ease of handling, and practicality quickly turned it into a phenomenon that extended far beyond mere transportation. Over the years, the Vespa has become a symbol of freedom, youth, and lifestyle, playing a significant role in European popular culture. Eight decades after its inception, it continues to captivate enthusiasts and collectors worldwide, who keep the passion for these motorcycles alive. This same enthusiasm has driven David Fernández Barbao to organise the exhibition in Gijón, bringing together specimens that illustrate the brand's evolution and its significance in motorcycling history.
An exhibition for enthusiasts and the general public
The showcase is not solely aimed at classic motorcycle aficionados; it also seeks to spark the curiosity of those wishing to learn about a part of mobility history and discover why the Vespa has become a true icon. For many visitors, viewing these models will evoke memories of bygone eras, while younger generations will have the chance to explore motorcycles that have influenced the everyday lives of millions.
During nearly two weeks, Los Fresnos transforms into a small museum dedicated to the Vespa, offering the Gijón public a collection that blends tradition, design, and history.
