Organised by SAMUR-Protección Civil, a major emergency simulation took place at the Cuatro Vientos airbase in Madrid, featuring participation from various emergency and security services of the city council, the Armed Forces, the National Police, the Civil Guard, SELUR, SAMUR Social, local hospitals, and emergency services from 16 autonomous communities and five countries.
The exercise involved five actions across three different scenarios, addressing critical situations such as shootings, explosions, chases, and fires. This event is the most significant of over 30 simulations conducted annually by essential city services to ensure preparedness for various incidents and to improve coordination among different agencies.
Deputy Mayor Inma Sanz attended the simulation, which concluded the 27th Municipal Disaster Conference. During the exercise, various critical situations were simulated, including an attack on an airport, with the assistance of a company specialising in special effects. Emergency services activated the Municipal Complex Incident Procedure (PIC) to manage these scenarios.
The simulation also extended to several hospitals in Madrid, where numerous 'victims' generated during the exercise were treated. Approximately 3,500 spectators attended, following the details of the simulation on large screens. Additionally, the Integral Centre for Security and Emergency Training of the city council hosted scientific discussions and featured speakers from various emergency services across Europe.
