The budget for the Empresa Municipal de Transportes de Madrid (EMT Madrid) for 2027 has been approved, amounting to 937.86 million euros, which is an increase of 39.71 million euros compared to the previous year. The approval took place during a meeting chaired by Borja Carabante, the delegate for Urban Planning, Environment and Mobility.
Of the total budget, 167.2 million euros will be allocated to investments aimed at enhancing the city's public transport infrastructure. A significant portion of this investment, 34.3 million euros, will be used to purchase 65 electric buses, which will contribute to nearly 30% of the municipal fleet being zero emissions.
Additionally, over 93.3 million euros will be dedicated to upgrading sustainable and innovative infrastructures, including the installation of pantographs for electric charging and the enhancement of parking facilities. The construction of new facilities, such as the operations centre in La Elipa, will incur a cost of 28.2 million euros.
The renovation project for the Teleférico de Madrid, a popular cable car service, will also enter its final phase in 2027, with an investment of 17.8 million euros allocated for modernising the infrastructure.
EMT Madrid aims to improve the quality of service provided to citizens, ensuring a public transport system that is increasingly safe, reliable, and comfortable. The budget also includes provisions for reinforcing bus lines affected by major construction projects, such as the undergrounding of the A-5 motorway and the development of the Conde de Casal interchange.
