Approximately 200 people participated in events organised by the Tourism, European Affairs and Energy Area over the weekend at the archaeological sites of Mesa de Miranda (Chamartín) and Las Cogotas (Cardeñosa) to mark World Tourism Day, celebrated annually on 27 September.

The festivities began on Saturday, 26 September, at Mesa de Miranda, attracting around 80 participants. Notably, there was significant interest in the children's workshops and activities, which were fully booked. The day concluded with a festive atmosphere enhanced by live music and tastings of products from the Valle Amblés and the Sierra de Ávila, encouraging the involvement of many local residents.

On Sunday, the programme at Las Cogotas drew approximately 115 attendees. About 60 participants utilised a free shuttle bus service from Lienzo Norte in the provincial capital, while others arrived by private vehicles. After enjoying a theatrical visit to the Castro, attendees had two options: a hiking route to the urban centre of Cardeñosa or a visit to the local church to explore its wooden coffered ceiling. The day culminated in a tasting of wines and products bearing the Ávila seal, where participants could purchase several of the showcased items.

Armando García Cuenca, the Deputy for Tourism, expressed satisfaction with the success of the commemorative events, stating, “The response from citizens throughout the weekend demonstrates that domestic tourism in our province is very much alive, as we managed to bring together families and visitors of all ages around the richness of our archaeological and cultural heritage.” He added, “The combination of heritage with music, nature, and Ávila's excellent gastronomy is a winning formula to strengthen the territory and highlight our municipalities. We want to thank all the attendees and residents who made the success of this Tourism Day possible.”
