The third edition of the Andalucía de la Tauromaquia awards has announced its winners, with the ceremony set to take place on 10 December at the Palacio de San Telmo in Seville. Antonio Sanz, the first vice president of the Junta de Andalucía and Minister of the Presidency, Health and Emergencies, expressed his appreciation for the jury's decisions regarding the awards for 2025.
The prestigious Costillares Award for professional bullfighting will be awarded to Francisco Manuel Ojeda González, known as Paco Ojeda. The jury highlighted his transformative impact on contemporary bullfighting, noting his unique artistic personality and his lasting legacy in the field.
The Veragua Award for livestock will go to the Núñez del Cuvillo breeding operation, founded in 1982 by Joaquín Núñez del Cuvillo from Cádiz. The jury praised its excellence in breeding, which has contributed significantly to the history of bullfighting, with notable bulls such as 'Arrojado' and 'Miraflores' being recognised for their bravery and quality.
The Hemingway Award for artistic promotion will be presented to Vicente Amigo, a prominent figure in contemporary flamenco. Sanz commended Amigo for his role in promoting Andalucía's cultural heritage through music, particularly in relation to bullfighting.
Pablo Aguado Lucena will receive the Puerta Grande Award for promoting the bullfighting tradition. The jury recognised his initiatives aimed at engaging younger audiences with the values of bullfighting, including educational projects designed to foster interest in the art form.
A special mention will be awarded to Cristina Sánchez de Pablos, who is celebrated for her pioneering contributions to bullfighting, particularly as a female figure in a traditionally male-dominated field. Her historic debut as a novillera at the Real Maestranza de Caballería in Seville 30 years ago marked a significant moment in the sport.
Antonio Sanz concluded by acknowledging Sánchez's ongoing influence as a commentator and advocate for women's visibility in Andalucía's bullfighting scene.
