The XXII Travessa d’Aigües Obertes, or open water crossing, held in Alcúdia, has set a new participation record with 125 swimmers taking part, the highest number recorded to date. Organised by the Sports Department of the Alcúdia Town Hall, the event covered a distance of 7 kilometres between Formentor beach and Sant Pere beach, located in the Mal Pas area.
Participants enjoyed exceptional sea conditions, with calm waters throughout the course, allowing them to perform at their best. Approximately 75 volunteers and professionals contributed to the organisation and safety of the event, collaborating with the GEAS unit of the Civil Guard, the Salvamar Cavall Bernat rescue boat from Maritime Safety, and a group of lifeguards from the municipal rescue service.
Support for the swimmers was provided by around 40 kayaks, paddleboards, jet skis, and various volunteer boats that accompanied them along the 7-kilometre route.
Alcúdia's mayor, Fina Linares, and the Sports Councillor, Verónica Caro, attended the event and participated in the trophy presentation at the conclusion of the race. The Alcúdia Town Hall expressed gratitude to all volunteers, professionals, security forces, and rescue services who made this record edition of the open water crossing possible.
