The Ayuntamiento de Santa Cruz de Tenerife has unveiled the 23rd International Comic and Illustration Salon of Tenerife, a gathering that will once again bring together enthusiasts from the sector. The presentation was attended by the city's mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez, along with Purificación Dávila, councillor for the Centro-Ifara District, Santiago Díaz Mejías, councillor for Culture, and Francisco Pomares, president of the Cine+Cómics Foundation.
Mayor Bermúdez emphasised the significance of the city becoming a meeting point for comic and illustration fans, stating that the programme contributes to the dynamism of cultural and commercial activities. He also highlighted the value of hosting an internationally renowned event that introduces various forms of artistic expression to audiences of all ages.
Purificación Dávila praised the presence of the Salon in different spaces throughout the capital, particularly in the urban centre. She noted the importance of bringing culture closer to the public and enhancing cultural activities that invigorate public spaces and district life.
Santiago Díaz Mejías reflected on the revival of the Centro de Arte La Recova as one of the venues for this year's Salon, which returns to the programme after three years. He underscored the importance of this space in making comic and illustration more accessible to the public, reinforcing the presence of visual arts in Santa Cruz's cultural offerings.
Francisco Pomares highlighted the scale of this edition, which will feature over a hundred activities and 40 exhibitions across various municipalities in the Canary Islands, with 24 of them located in Santa Cruz. He also noted the participation of more than eighty artists and the introduction of new spaces and proposals to enhance interactions between creators and fans.
The main details of the event were shared, with the in-person programme scheduled from 29 October to 1 November, centred around Plaza del Príncipe, along with activities at the Museo Municipal de Bellas Artes and the Real Casino de Tenerife. Plaza del Príncipe will host the commercial area of the Salon, featuring seven shops and an Artist Alley with over eighty participants. Additionally, there will be a stage dedicated to cosplay activities, k-pop, and a j-pop and idol contest, which is a new feature for this edition.
The Museo Municipal de Bellas Artes will again host talks and presentations, while the Real Casino de Tenerife will serve as the venue for the Salon's Awards Gala and the Comic and Illustration Contest, “Juventud Canaria” 2026. Of the 24 exhibitions in the municipality, distributed across eight locations in the capital, twelve will showcase original drawings.
