seville film festival and RTVE renew collaboration to enhance event visibility

The European Film Festival of Seville has renewed its collaboration with RTVE, Spain's national public broadcasting corporation, for its 23rd edition, taking place from 6 to 14 November. The new agreement, formalised on 7 November, continues the partnership established last year, aiming to promote and disseminate the festival's activities while broadening its audience through RTVE's diverse channels.

The agreement was signed in Seville by Alfonso Morales, RTVE's Secretary General, and Angie Moreno, the city's Delegate for Culture and Tourism. Notable attendees included Mercedes de Pablos, RTVE's Councillor and President of the RTVE Equality Observatory, and Gervasio Iglesias, RTVE's Deputy Director of Film.

enhanced festival coverage

This collaboration will provide special attention to the festival during its duration, utilising RTVE's channels, radio stations, and digital platforms to bring the festival's programming and activities closer to the public. The agreement also facilitates comprehensive media coverage of the event, with the festival providing necessary information to support RTVE's outreach efforts and ensuring access for technical and production teams at various venues.

Furthermore, the festival will acknowledge RTVE as a collaborating entity, incorporating its branding across various communication materials, including graphics, the festival's website, and social media platforms.

RTVE's involvement in festival productions

This year, three films competing in the Official Section of the Seville Festival involve RTVE's participation. 'El director', directed by Dani de la Orden, is a fictional feature film starring David Verdaguer and Alberto San Juan, based on the autobiographical novel by David Jiménez. The director adapted the book for the screen alongside Alejandro Hernández and Michel Gaztambide.

Another entry, 'Tralovento', directed by Eloy Domínguez Serén, is a Galician drama exploring themes of belonging and collective struggle, co-written with Meritxell Colell. Additionally, the documentary 'Taranta' marks the debut film of photojournalist Samuel Nacar, with a script by Ana Puentes and Claudia Barthelemy.

RTVE is also featured in the Panorama Andaluz programming with '200 vidas. Paco Rabal', directed by Vanesa Benítez, which delves into the life and career of one of Spain's legendary actors. In the Embrujo section, 'Bailar la muerte' by Luis E. Parés examines the impact of flamenco during the Spanish Civil War, while 'Monstro', directed by Andrés Goteira, combines fantasy and experimental cinema in a dialogue-free narrative starring Antonio Durán and Iván Marcos.

Finally, within the Special Screenings segment, 'Carta blanca' by Gerardo Herrero adapts the eponymous novel by Lorenzo Silva, featuring the author and screenwriter Daniel Corpas, with Iván Pellicer and Víctor Clavijo in leading roles. 'Un hijo', directed by Nacho La Casa, is based on a celebrated novel by National Literature Prize winner Alejandro Palomas, with a script co-written by Juan R. Apolo and the director, starring Macarena García and Hugo Silva. The documentary 'Sevilla FC hasta la muerte', directed by Andrés Torres Rubio, reviews the history of the Seville football club.

commitment to equality in the audiovisual sector

The new agreement also extends the collaboration between the European Film Festival of Seville and the RTVE Equality Observatory. As part of this partnership, the short documentary 'Abril, hoy no es invierno', written and directed by Mabel Lozano, will be screened on 10 November at the Cultural Initiatives Centre of the University of Seville (CICUS). The film addresses the sexual exploitation of women with disabilities and the communication barriers that hinder the identification and reporting of such violence. Following the screening, a discussion with the filmmaker will reflect on the multiple discriminations faced by these women and the potential of audiovisual media as a tool for awareness and social change.

Additionally, joint actions will be promoted to enhance the understanding and application of the State Pact against Gender Violence and the III Equality Plan between women and men in RTVE (2026-2030) within audiovisual productions. Thus, the festival will also serve as a platform for reflection and the promotion of initiatives related to equality in the audiovisual sector, aligning with RTVE's commitment to diversity, equality, and plural representation in its content.
