Gelen Delgado, the Councillor for Crafts in Talavera, has praised the enthusiastic reception of activities associated with the city's participation in the International Ceramics Exhibition in Jingdezhen, China, a major global showcase for this ancient art form.
The programme received an excellent response from the public, with 150 attendees at the theatrical guided tour 'Following the Footsteps of La Celestina', and all places for pottery and ceramics workshops filled within just two hours of their announcement. These figures reflect the interest of Talavera residents in engaging with initiatives that promote the city's artistic, historical, and cultural heritage.
One notable aspect of these activities was the involvement of local ceramicists who are part of the Talavera delegation heading to Jingdezhen to represent the city's ceramic tradition. Their presence in the workshops allowed participants to learn firsthand about the craft, its techniques, and the knowledge passed down through generations.
The Talavera delegation will showcase 48 pieces from 18 local ceramic workshops at this significant international event, highlighting the richness, quality, and diversity of a craft that is a key part of Talavera's identity.
During the events on 9 and 10 October, participants enjoyed ceramics workshops at Alaría and pottery sessions at Vodre Cerámica, gaining hands-on experience with clay and exploring techniques that have established Talavera as an international reference in ceramics.
The programme also included the theatrical tour 'Following the Footsteps of La Celestina', which attracted 150 participants on a journey through Talavera's heritage via literature, theatre, and history. This initiative allowed attendees to discover the city's connections to one of the most significant works of Spanish literature, presenting its cultural legacy in a dynamic and engaging manner.
Delgado emphasised that these initiatives are part of the work carried out by the Councillor for Crafts to promote and disseminate Talavera ceramics, support professionals in the sector, and bring the city's heritage closer to the public through experiences that blend culture, tradition, and tourism.
